South Korea develops new OLED that can make clothes thinner than a human hair

Current wearable displays are generally based on OLED screens, and due to the size limitations of wearable devices, existing screens cannot achieve good display effects.
To solve this problem, kyung's team designed an OLED structure that could be compatible with the fiber. By coating the three-dimensional structure of the fiber, the team succeeded in designing a fibre-based OLED light-emitting diode.
The team also demonstrated that the fibril withstood 4.3% of the tensile strain while maintaining a 90% current efficiency. Moreover, they can be woven into textiles and knitted garments without causing any problems.
In addition, the technology allows organic diodes to be made on fibers thinner than a human hair. It's important to note that all the work was done at minus 105 degrees.
"Existing wearable displays have limitations in applicability due to their low performance, but this technology can produce high-performance fiber-optic organic diodes," said Professor Choi. "This simple, low-cost process opens the way for commercialization of fiber-optic wearable displays."
