Where did LEDs come from?What are they?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes.They are small semiconductor chips mounted to a circuit board that emit light.Pronouncd LED's and not leds,they are the most energy efficient light source available today. 

What is a light emitting diode?

Light Emitting Diodes ,commonly know as LEDs, are semiconductor chips mounted to a circuit board that emit light when powered.Since they are circuit board diodes they require constant current tor dc type power and thus require a driver to convert from building ac power.
