In accordance with cabinet resolution no. 34 of 2013, the uae promulgated the mandatory regulations on lighting products in the official gazette on 31 December 2013, which will be implemented in two phases:
· from July 1, 2014, substandard lighting products will be banned from being sold in the uae
· from January 1, 2015, substandard lighting products will be banned from sale and/or display in the uae market
Only lighting products with a certificate of conformity (CoC) issued by the uae standards authority (ESMA) are allowed to be sold in the uae market and the sale of substandard lighting products will be deemed to be in contravention of federal law 28 of 2001.
The uae's mandatory certification program is ECAS, which includes safety and energy efficiency requirements.
The regulated lighting products include:
· incandescent bulb no less than 16W
· strip fluorescent lamps
· compact fluorescent lamps
Halogen lamp,
· light-emitting diode (LED)
· control device for common lighting
· general lighting fixtures
