People often ask, "Why can't we see or sense nanoscale objects under light microscopes?" The textbook answer is that their relative signals are weak, and their separation is less than Abbe's resolution limit.
However, a research team led by University of Illinois professor Lynford L Goddard, including postdoctoral fellow Jinlong Zhu and doctoral student Aditi Udupa, is challenging these principles with a new optical framework.
