Information

The McAdam ellipse is of great significance for the development of color maps. According to the distribution of McAdam's ellipse on the CIE 1931XYZ color map, we can see that the color width and capacity are not the same at different positions in the color map. For example, the blue part has the smallest width and the green part has the largest width. In other words, the human eye can see a greater number of different shades of blue in the same space as the blue part of the palette; In the same space as the green part, the human eye can only see a smaller number of different kinds of green. Therefore, CIE 1931XYZ color plot is not uniform. Because if it's uniform, then a McAdam ellipse anywhere on the graph should be a circle with the same radius. It is very difficult to find an ideal chromaticity diagram, because an ideal uniform chromaticity diagram is not a plane but a surface, and cannot be described by Eucligian geometric space, so only approximately uniform chromaticity diagram can be found on the plane. The development of the color map is a process of making the McAdam's ellipse on the color map as circular as possible.
The McAdam ellipse is widely used in lighting field, which is of great significance to the industry. ANSI (American National Standards Institute, the American National Standards Institute) C78.377 recommended bulb manufacturers in the production of fluorescent lamp tube chromaticity coordinates should fall in with Planck's trajectory (namely planckian locus) 4 - order MAC Adam as the center of the ellipse, and compact fluorescent lamps and chromaticity coordinates of solid light source (SSL) should fall within 7 - order elliptic, which LED the ellipse is quadrilateral by definition, as shown in figure 3. However, a number of recent studies have shown that people's preference for white light is not symmetrical on either side of the Planck trajectory but rather on the lower side. Therefore, ANSI is cooperating with relevant departments to study and modify AN
