An LED backlight is a grid of semiconductors, each with an LED in it, which makes it possible to flatten the light. Its planar light source not only has excellent brightness uniformity, but also does not require complex optical path design. As a result, LCD thickness can be made thinner and thinner, with higher reliability and stability.
Traditional CCFL is a tubular light source, and it requires quite complex auxiliary components to distribute the light it emits evenly across each area of the panel. The thickness of the screen is also harder to control, and as the panels grow, multiple light sources must be used, further complicating the design and the cost, to which large-screen LCD TVS are more sensitive. For example, a straight-down CCFL backlight module for LCD or TV products over 50 inches may account for more than half of the cost of the panel.
