Ponds lights are not just for decortion, they can have a very vital  practical role too- they can serve to outline the edges of the water fixture at night so that you, your family , and your guests know where it's safe to step . In theory, underwater, downlight,  and uplight fixtures can all serve this role as well if placed correctly but you might have  to place some p athway ground lights around your pond as well.
