The flexible OLED panel USES flexible glass from Corning called WillowGlass and OLEDWorks' OLED technology. Since then, Corning and OLEDWorks have continued to increase their collaboration. And the technology on both sides is getting better.

Here's Dipak Chowdhury, Vice President of OLED Lighting at Corning. He explains how Corning has made WillowGlass more flexible. He used rigid aluminum as an example. If the rigid aluminum can be made thin enough, it can be bent. The same is true of glass. "We just made it thinner," Says Dipak. "As it gets thinner, it gets more flexible."

One of the questions covered in the Dipak interview was "What is the use of curved OLED lamps?"
He points out that the industry spends a lot of money to make the light look curved and to try to hide the light source, to make the overall look better and to prevent glare. Dipak says that while early LED lights looked like familiar lights and incandescent bulbs, the latest models are not limited to looking like bulbs.
He points out that the early LED festival light was a flexible tube that you could bend at will. However, you can still see a separate light on each string of lights. The LED strings can be bent around almost anything to highlight the architectural character of rooms and buildings.

What if the flexibility of the LED string could be combined with the flatness of the OLED panel?
Dipak says this capability will allow designers to transform light into the more desirable curved shapes used in conventional lighting. In other words, flexible OLED lamps have great design potential.
