Information

Due to the advantages of leds such as reduced energy consumption, relatively low maintenance frequency and long service life, plans have been promoted in recent years around the world to convert traditional light bulbs such as high-voltage sodium lamps into leds.

Newly upgraded LED lights will soon light up toll roads in Illinois, us media reported.

Leaders of the Illinois highway department and ComEd, the Illinois power company, are in discussions to provide new energy-efficient LED lights for toll roads.

The upgraded system is designed to improve safety while reducing energy consumption and saving money.

There are several building projects in progress. The Illinois highway department predicts that by 2021, 90% of its systems will be LED.

State highway officials say they plan to install all the leds by the end of 2026.

In addition, a street lighting upgrade in north Yorkshire, northeast England, is bringing environmental and economic benefits faster than expected, British media reported.

To date, north Yorkshire county council has converted more than 35,000 streetlights (80% of the target number) to leds. This has saved £800,000 in energy and maintenance costs this financial year alone.

The three-year project has also significantly reduced its carbon footprint, saving more than 2,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year and reducing the number of street defects by about half.Reprint source: LEDinside)
