Organic electroluminescent device (OLED) is a new generation of display technology, whose outstanding characteristics make it the mainstream of international display technology. The project 973 (Basic and Applied Research on Excited States of Metal Complexes), led by Prof. Chi-ming Chi of the University of Hong Kong, developed a tetradentate ligand-based platinum (II) complex, which is likely to replace the commercial phosphoiridium (III) complex, and has attracted great attention from academic and industrial circles at home and abroad. While vigorously developing the metal complex luminescent materials with its own intellectual property, the team is aiming for the next generation of metal complex luminescent materials in the longer term. The highly efficient luminescent gold (III) complex and inexpensive tungsten (VI) complex developed by the project team are likely to be the next generation of the most competitive OLED luminescent materials.
