Luminus Devices, of Sunnyvale, Calif., announced that it has launched PerfectWhite™, its third proprietary spectroscopic technology that almost completely recreates the visual characteristics of a halogen lamp (3000K). Halogen lamps are considered by many in the lighting industry to be the gold standard for artificial lamps.

The company claims that its PerfectWhite spectroscopic technology not only recreates the halogen lamp output power, but also makes further improvements. Luminus said the new technology fills a gap in blue-green lighting, and PerfectWhite's point of color is slightly below the blackbody curve. As a result, PerfectWhite does not have the green/yellow tones common to halogen lamps and does not contain UV radiation.

The company designs spectrum AccuWhite to maximize CRI performance, with a minimum CRI of 95 and a typical CRI of 98. It is worth noting that both lighting designers and visual display managers are seeking the highest CRI and TM-30-15 ratings for indoor lighting applications. AccuWhite leds are available in the TM-30-15 standard with a Rf(fidelity) value of up to 95 and an Rg(gametold) value of up to 100, and achieve performance of up to 125 lumens/watt at 85°C housing temperatures.

Sensus™ spectrum technology, on the other hand, addresses the needs of retail stores to generate richer and more vibrant saturated colors, such as blue and red, to stimulate purchases in a whiter light environment. Sensus' 3000K and 3500K engineering spectra provide up to 120 gamut area index (GAI BB15) and chroma below the blackbody curve, allowing for the perception of pure, bright white and darker colors and increasing contrast. While other leds may also produce pure white lighting, Luminus' Sensus can achieve pure white lighting without sacrificing performance, achieving 148 lumens per watt (LPW) at temperatures as high as 85°C, Luminus said.
